Product Description

Kollmorgen is an international automation firm that develops innovative automation systems.

The NEXTSTEP-120 is a high quality micro-stepping drive that is manufactured for advanced motion control applications. This model comes with all the standard features of a drive control system and a motor. When it comes to open-loop position control systems, this model is allowed to achieve the highest levels of throughput that are not achieved by other such systems. This model comes as a highly function world class motor/drive package that is cost-efficient and very convenient to use. The device provides high performance and feature enhancements and can be used with various high torque NEMA motors. The drive operates on a standard line voltage of 120 VAC. The system operates at a 160 VDC bus voltage with a selectable motor current setting of up to 7.9 Amps. The drive has an adjustable motor current waveform that ensures optimal smoothness and step to step accuracy.

The NEXTSTEP-120 comes with built-in regenerative circuitry that enables this model to dissipate a large amount of energy from large inertial loads. This model is designed with resonance free circuitry that ensures overall better speed/torque control. This provides more torque at higher speeds. The drive’s performance is smooth throughout the entire motion profile. This model also provides the highest acceleration/deceleration rates that are possible from a step motor. This model can be used in unpredictable conditions and has protection against short circuits, under-voltage, and overtemperature. The system operates between 90-120 VAC single phase connection and has a 50/60 Hz operating frequency. This drive uses the latest power electronics technology and allows multiple drive units to be mounted very close to each other.

Frequently Asked Questions about NEXTSTEP-120

Q: What is the main drive application?

A: The microstepping drive is used for control of IDC stepper motors.

Q: What is the effect of setting the REST dip switch to the ON position?

A: Setting the REST dip switch to the ON position will lead to reduction of motor current to 1 Amp after a 12 minute period with no motion. Full motor current will resume upon receipt of next step pulse.

Q: What is the effect of setting the IDLE dip switch to the ON position?

A: Setting the IDLE dip switch to the ON position will lead to reduction of drive current to 75% after a 12 minute period with no step pulses. Full current will resume upon receipt of next step pulse.

Q: What is necessary after changes to any of the RESOLUTION switches?

A: The drive must be power cycled after changes to any of the RESOLUTION switches.

Q: Is any horizontal spacing required between adjacent drives?

A: Horizonal spacing is not required, but 0.1 inch spacing is recommended for ease of installation.
