The MMC-SDN-3.6-460-D belongs to the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series produced by Kollmorgen. This compact AC drive houses power electronics and motion-control functions in one enclosure, allowing direct connection to three-phase mains and a servo or induction motor without an external controller. Within an automation cell, it supplies regulated torque and speed so conveyors, pick-and-place axes, or process pumps can be commanded by a PLC over standardized fieldbus links. The integrated design reduces the number of separate control components required inside the electrical cabinet while retaining the communication and regulation functions needed for automated motion.
The drive’s protective circuitry trips when the DC bus exceeds 840 VDC, guarding semiconductors against line surges or regenerative events. During continuous operation, the inverter delivers 6 A RMS to the motor, which provides a steady mechanical output of 2.5 kW at 480 VAC. This output is available continuously at the nominal cabinet temperature. Energy is stored on the internal link through 470 µF of bus capacitance, smoothing rectified mains power and supplying short bursts of current during acceleration. Line-side demand reaches 4.49 kVA, a value used to size upstream circuit breakers, contactors, and wiring so voltage sag can be limited when multiple drives start simultaneously.
Dynamic events are handled by a peak output of 25.5 A zero-to-peak, enabling rapid motor torque changes without exceeding the thermal limits of the IGBTs. For brief overloads, the inverter can supply up to 7.5 kW at 480 VAC, supporting high-inertia loads that must be brought up to speed quickly.
