Product Description:

The MMC-SD-65.0-460-D-D is a standalone smart drive produced by Kollmorgen within the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. It modulates three-phase mains power so that servo or induction motors can operate at variable speeds and torque levels in automated machines, test stands, or high-power conveyor systems. By combining power conversion, control electronics, and feedback support in one housing, the drive eliminates the need for separate external amplifiers and simplifies industrial control cabinets. Its integrated architecture also reduces the number of connections required between the controller, power stage, and feedback components.

This model delivers a continuous mechanical output of 65.0 kW while drawing power from a 400 VAC three-phase supply. Steady-state motor torque is supported by a continuous armature current of 108.0 A RMS, and motor output frequency can reach 450 Hz for high-speed spindles or precision servo applications. The internal energy storage system uses a DC link with a capacitance of 3055 µF, providing short-term buffering against load transients and smoothing regenerated energy. An integrated 24 VDC logic rail draws 3.2 A and consumes 77 W while powering the digital BiSS interface for high-resolution feedback devices. The mains side draws a nominal input current of 95 A RMS during rated operation.

During acceleration, the inverter can supply a peak phase current of 209 A before returning to its thermal limit. Excess energy is diverted through a hardware shunt that activates at 780 VDC, helping prevent DC-bus overvoltage when large inertial loads decelerate. Total conduction and switching losses are 1740 W, which must be considered when selecting panel ventilation and heat-sink capacity. The unit weighs 59 lb, an important consideration when planning cabinet support and mounting. Supplemental circuits include a 4.0 A brake driver for electromechanical holding brakes. The mains input rating is 72.1 kVA, which supports the selection of suitable upstream fuses and contactors.
