Product Description:

The MMC-SD-42.0-460-D is a standalone smart drive manufactured by Kollmorgen and supplied within the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. Designed for servo and spindle control in industrial automation, the unit integrates power conversion, motion control logic, and fieldbus communication into a single enclosure. This integration allows motors to be positioned without an external motion controller. It manages high-inertia loads through an internal brake driver and connects directly to a DC bus so multiple axes can share regenerated energy.

The power stage delivers a continuous phase current of 93.3 A, supporting the maximum steady-state torque that the connected motor can sustain without thermal derating. For short acceleration periods, it supplies a peak current of 147 A, providing additional capacity for rapid indexing or shock loads. The drive has a nominal input current of 58 A RMS and a nominal input capacity of 48.5 kVA; these values assist with conductor sizing and upstream fuse selection for 460 V systems. The current regulator refreshes every 125 microseconds, allowing the controller to correct torque errors at an 8 kHz rate. Feedback pulses up to 720 kHz are accepted, allowing the use of high-resolution encoders. The internal DC link contains 1,880 µF of capacitance to smooth the energy exchanged between connected axes.

During bus sharing, the common link can supply up to 36.0 kW. The internal resistor absorbs regenerative surges with an energy capacity of 173 J at the rated voltage. A dedicated brake driver delivers 4.0 A to operate motor brakes without requiring an external module. Machine I/O includes 8 configurable general inputs, and the digital communication cable can extend up to 25 m between the drive and a controller or peer drive. The enclosure measures 655 mm high, 190 mm wide, and 322.63 mm deep. It weighs 59 lb, and its narrow width helps conserve horizontal panel space in an industrial control cabinet.
