Product Description:
The MMC-SD-24.0-460-D is a standalone smart drive produced by Kollmorgen for the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. It provides closed-loop motor control in factory automation cells that need integrated motion control, power conversion, and fieldbus connectivity in a single enclosure. By converting three-phase 460 VAC mains power into a regulated output for servo and induction motors, the unit handles speed, torque, and position tasks without requiring an external amplifier or controller.
The drive can deliver a continuous phase current of 55.0 A, while momentary overloads are supported up to a peak current of 110.0 A for rapid acceleration. Line loading is based on a nominal input demand of 26.3 kVA, which corresponds to an RMS mains current of 33.1 A RMS. During power-up, the rectifier and bulk capacitors impose a maximum inrush current of 61.8 A RMS, so upstream protection must be sized accordingly. The current regulator updates every 125 µs and works with a DC-bus capacitance of 1,640 µF to minimize ripple during dynamic load changes. Control electronics are powered by a 24 V auxiliary rail that draws 1,050 mA during steady operation and experiences a 4 A surge at startup. These electrical characteristics support responsive torque regulation during acceleration, deceleration, and changing motor loads.
At 460 VAC, the power stage can deliver 24.0 kW to the motor terminals, while internal power losses are limited to 600 W to assist with cabinet cooling calculations. Regenerated energy is dissipated through a shunt circuit that activates at 780 VDC, and the bus capacitors can store up to 152 J before the circuit switches. Speed commands update every 250 µs through a digital link that can extend up to 25 m without repeaters. The enclosure weighs 35 lb, which eases panel mounting and limits the load placed on cabinet supports. Adequate airflow around the enclosure helps remove the heat generated by the power stage during continuous operation.
