The MMC-SD-24.0-460 is a standalone smart drive produced by Kollmorgen for the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. It combines a power stage with embedded motion control to provide closed-loop regulation of brushless servomotors in compact machinery and multi-axis cells. By converting a fixed 460 VAC supply into a precisely modulated three-phase output, the unit controls velocity, torque, and position without an external controller. This integrated design reduces the amount of control hardware required in cabinets for material-handling, packaging, and light machining systems.

The drive can deliver a continuous motor phase current of 55.0 A, and it supports transient demands up to 110.0 A during acceleration or shock loads. At the rated line voltage, the power section supplies 24.0 kW of mechanical output. The internal logic updates the current loop every 125 µs, enabling tight torque control and a rapid response to changing load conditions. A bulk capacitor bank with a capacitance of 1640 µF stabilizes the DC bus during regenerative events and helps the input section ride through short-term line sags. Nominal input requirements are 26.3 kVA and 33.1 A RMS, allowing the drive to operate from standard 460 V utility feeders used in midsize equipment.

Total heat dissipation is 600 W, a value used to determine the required capacity of panel ventilation or liquid cooling equipment. At power-up, the rectifier draws 61.8 A RMS for several cycles, so upstream breakers and contactors must tolerate the resulting inrush current. Kollmorgen recommends a mains isolation transformer rated at 39.5 kVA for installations that require galvanic separation or voltage adaptation. The energy absorption network can absorb 152 J of regenerated energy at 460 V, helping prevent overvoltage trips during deceleration. With a mass of 35 lb, the drive can be mounted on suitable rails or base plates without requiring additional lifting equipment.
