The MMC-SD-2.0-230-DN is a standalone smart drive developed by Kollmorgen within the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. As a compact servo amplifier, it supplies regulated power to brushless motors while communicating motion commands through a Digital Ethernet link for coordinated machine axes. Its integration of power electronics and networked control allows the unit to execute positioning, speed, or torque loops without an external controller, simplifying panel layouts in industrial automation.
The drive accepts an input range of 88 to 265 VAC at 47 to 63 Hz from a single-phase line, accommodating utility grids used worldwide. Under rated conditions, it draws a nominal current of 18 A RMS and withstands an inrush current of 70 A at power-up. Internally, it converts that energy into a continuous output current of 7 A RMS, with a short-term output of up to 21.2 A RMS for acceleration or disturbance rejection. The power channel supports a motor load of 2.0 kW while dissipating 70 W of losses through the heat sink and enclosure surfaces. Input voltage can be set to 115 VAC or 230 VAC by installing the unit on the appropriate distribution bus. The logic section monitors supply health so that faults can be reported over Ethernet.
The control electronics operate from a dedicated 24 VDC rail, keeping the feedback, I/O, and network active during main-power dropouts. The housing is 10.1 inches high, 3.96 inches wide, and 6.12 inches deep, allowing dense installation on DIN rails while preserving airflow channels between adjacent devices. The permitted operating temperature ranges from 7 °C to 55 °C; operation outside this range can cause derating or thermal shutdown to protect internal components. The Digital Ethernet interface is located on the front panel, while the AC terminals are positioned on top for direct signal and power connections.
