The MMC-SD-0.5-230-A drive is produced by Kollmorgen as a member of the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. It is a compact AC servo amplifier intended to power small-frame synchronous or induction motors directly from single- or three-phase mains. By integrating motion control, feedback processing, and discrete I/O in one housing, the unit simplifies installation in packaging machines, light conveyors, and other mid-power automation axes where independent positioning or speed regulation is required.
On the power side, the drive can deliver a continuous output current of 2.5 A (0-to-peak), allowing sustained torque production without thermal derating. For rapid acceleration, it supports a peak output current of 7.5 A (0-to-peak), available for brief intervals before current limiting engages. Motor speed is commanded through carrier modulation up to 266 Hz, accommodating high-speed spindles or gearless actuators. When supplied with 230 VAC, the inverter provides up to 500 W of mechanical power, but the input capacitors may draw an initial surge of 70 A (0-to-peak) as they charge, so upstream protection must be sized accordingly. Eight general-purpose inputs and four sourcing outputs, each rated for 50 mA, permit local sequencing and status signaling without an external PLC.
For precise setpoint handling, the analog interface processes signals at 14-bit resolution, providing fine granularity for velocity or torque commands. The control electronics draw 9 W from the 24 VDC auxiliary rail, and their brief 1.5 A inrush lasts only 10 ms.
