Product Description:
The MMC-SD-0.5-230 is a micro-sized drive produced by Kollmorgen within the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. It combines power electronics, control, and servo regulation in one enclosure, allowing a machine to control the position or velocity of a servo motor from a single-phase AC supply without an external amplifier. By converting utility power to a modulated DC bus and gated output waveform, the unit supplies regulated current to brushless or brushed servomotors used in packaging, material handling, or small process stations.
The drive disconnects itself when the DC link rises above 420 VDC, preventing component damage during regenerative events. Under continuous load, the output channels deliver 2.5 A of sinusoidal phase current, while short-duration moves can draw up to 7.5 A to accelerate inertial loads. A power-up surge of 70 A is expected as the bulk capacitors charge, so upstream fusing must accommodate this inrush. Mains conductors may supply as much as 1.0 kVA, which determines the required transformer and wiring capacity when the drive operates from the designated single-phase source. Control and feedback wiring terminate on a 26-pin high-density D-shell connector, allowing encoder, analog command, and limit signals to share one compact interface.
At 230 VAC, the inverter sustains 500 W of mechanical output, while operation at 115 VAC limits continuous delivery to 250 W. These ratings help match motor torque requirements to the available branch voltage. Internal switching components and gate drivers dissipate 22 W, minimizing heat buildup in compact panels. A 1410 µF bus capacitor stores energy, while an absorption capacity of 38 J protects the DC link from regenerated voltage spikes. With a mass of 2.23 kg, the assembly can be mounted on a DIN rail without heavy structural bracing.
