The M.3000.0929 is a standalone smart drive manufactured by Kollmorgen within the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. It converts fixed-frequency utility power into a user-defined waveform for small AC induction or synchronous motors, enabling speed, direction, and torque adjustments directly at the machine frame. By integrating power conversion, protection, and low-voltage control in a single package, the unit simplifies panel design and supports decentralized automation architectures.
The drive tolerates a mains voltage range of 88–265 VAC, so the same unit works on global 115 V or 230 V networks. During steady operation, it draws only 3 A RMS, but charging the internal capacitors can momentarily demand 70 A zero-to-peak; primary fuses and contactors should be sized accordingly. An embedded comparator trips when the DC bus exceeds 420 VDC, protecting both the inverter bridge and the motor insulation. Continuous machine duty is supported by an output capability of 1.8 A RMS, and vector modulation keeps that current stable across a selectable frequency range of 0–266 Hz. The front end accepts line frequencies between 47 Hz and 63 Hz, while total thermal dissipation remains limited to 22 W, reducing enclosure cooling requirements.
When supplied from a 115 VAC branch circuit, the inverter delivers up to 250 W to the motor shaft. Connection to 230 VAC increases the output ceiling to 500 W for faster cycles or heavier loads. High-demand moves are accommodated by a short-term surge of 7.5 A zero-to-peak, providing additional current for acceleration commands. The logic section uses a 24 VDC supply, drawing a typical 375 mA and briefly rising to 1.5 A for 10 ms during startup. This separate logic supply allows control functions and fieldbus communication to remain active during interruptions to the mains supply. The module is suitable for conveyors, pick-and-place axes, and auxiliary pumps that benefit from distributed control without requiring a large cabinet-mounted drive.
