The M.1302.8908 is a standalone smart drive produced by Kollmorgen for the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. The module functions as a motor power stage and integrated controller, converting single-phase 115 or 230 VAC input power into a controlled three-phase output for servo or induction motors used in packaging stations, pick-and-place axes, and compact machines. It belongs to the narrow-width format that allows dense panel layouts and installation close to the load, so feedback, power, and I/O wiring can remain short.
The drive delivers a continuous load capacity of 1.8 A rms, or 2.5 A on a zero-to-peak basis, allowing sustained operation with fractional-horsepower servomotors. For rapid acceleration, it can supply 7.5 A for short periods without exceeding thermal limits. The pulse-width-modulated stage supports output frequencies up to 266 Hz, permitting the operation of high-speed spindles or linear motors. Internal DC bus monitoring disconnects the mains if the voltage rises above 420 VDC, protecting semiconductors during regenerative events. With a 115 VAC input, the unit supplies 250 W of mechanical power, and this output rises to 500 W when the drive is supplied with 230 VAC. These two input options allow the drive to operate with different supply systems.
Control electronics are supplied from an auxiliary 24 VDC input that draws approximately 375 mA, so the logic remains active during mains isolation. During power-up, the rectifier can draw as much as 70 A of inrush current, which must be considered when selecting fuses and soft-start equipment. Once operating, the inverter dissipates only 22 W, limiting the enclosure heat load. Typical applications draw a nominal line current of 5 A rms, which is compatible with standard 10 A branch circuits. The aluminum housing weighs 2.23 kg and uses a DIN-rail clip for mounting. The drive does not support BiSS encoders, so its feedback options are limited to incremental or analog interfaces.
