Product Description:
The M.1302.8480 is an I/O expansion card supplied by Kollmorgen for the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. Installed directly on the drive housing, it provides a block of digital inputs and outputs that lets the smart drive sense machine states and actuate field devices without an external PLC slice. In an automation cell, this board closes the gap between the motion controller embedded in the drive and on-machine photoelectric sensors, limit switches, and solenoid valves.
Eight sourcing inputs accept a nominal control level of 24 VDC, and the circuitry is protected up to 30 VDC so wiring tolerances or supply fluctuations do not trigger faults. An off threshold of 5 VDC and an on threshold of 15 VDC establish clear logic states, reducing chatter when sensors operate in electrically noisy environments. Input response time is limited to 1 ms, ensuring that fast indexers or registration marks are captured without missed counts. Input 1 can be designated as an interrupt, registering either a rising or falling edge to initiate motion or safety routines directly in the drive. The sourcing topology allows compatible field devices to interface with the input channels through a common-positive wiring arrangement.
The output side provides eight sourcing channels that are routed through a 26-pin male high-density D connector compatible with Kollmorgen drive-mounted cabling kits. Each channel can source up to 250 mA, which is sufficient to activate many 24 VDC relays or pneumatic valve coils. Turn-on and turn-off times both remain below 50 µs, enabling tight coordination between commanded motion and peripheral actuators. Signals are presented on the drive’s dedicated C5 General I/O port, allowing the module’s points to be mapped to ladder or IEC 61131 tasks without manual addressing.
