Kollmorgen’s M.1302.4523 is a resolver feedback interface card built for the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. Installed alongside the power stage, the card conditions resolver signals so the drive can calculate instantaneous rotor angle and speed, enabling closed-loop motor control in industrial automation. By translating the transducer’s analog sine and cosine waveforms into digital position data, it supports precise torque, velocity, and position regulation on servo axes used in material handling, printing, and assembly equipment.
The interface excites the resolver reference winding at 5 kHz, a carrier frequency that minimizes low-frequency noise pickup while keeping impedance manageable. It tracks rotor movement at an electrical velocity of up to 500 revolutions per second, allowing the drive to supervise very high-speed motors without losing synchronization. The resolver is energized with 4 V RMS, and the sensing circuits accept up to 28 mA RMS. These limits protect the windings from excessive heating while providing a strong return signal. A transformation ratio of 0.5:1.0 establishes the relationship between the excitation and feedback signal amplitudes, supporting accurate signal conversion. The decoding electronics subdivide each electrical cycle into 4096 feedback units per electrical revolution, providing fine resolution for velocity loops and smooth commutation.
Cabling from the motor connects to the board through the dedicated F1 feedback connector, which matches the other MMC I/O headers for straightforward assembly. Shielded twisted-pair leads can extend up to 30 m while meeting the amplitude and phase-shift requirements of the carrier and decoding circuitry. All excitation and logic power is supplied by the MMC Smart Drive, so no external supply or additional fusing is required. This arrangement also keeps startup sequencing synchronized with the main inverter.
