The Digital MMC-D1 is a single-axis smart drive produced by Kollmorgen within the MMC Standalone Smart Drives series. The unit integrates servo amplification with an embedded motion controller so it can govern one motor without an external PLC. In machine tools, pick-and-place heads, or indexing tables, it processes position loops internally and delivers drive currents directly, reducing panel space and wiring complexity in industrial automation. It accepts low-voltage logic power and communicates over serial links to coordinate with higher-level systems, enabling compact deployment in distributed architectures.

Internally, the controller provides 384K of application memory for compiled motion programs, backed by a 32-bit RISC processor with a numeric coprocessor that executes trajectory calculations. Digital sensor inputs are evaluated every 1 ms, providing tight timing for limit switch or registration tasks. Control circuitry is powered by a nominal 24 VDC supply that also feeds the optically isolated digital interface. The drive provides 8 onboard inputs that can be mapped to homing, emergency-stop, or user conditions, while eight sourcing outputs provide actuator commands or status signals.
