The 3EF-75 electromagnetic interference filter is manufactured by Kollmorgen and belongs to the Mains EMI Filters series. It is installed between a mains supply and sensitive motion controllers to reduce high-frequency electrical noise that could disrupt feedback loops, communication networks, or control signals. By attenuating differential-mode and common-mode disturbances, the passive unit helps machinery meet applicable electromagnetic compatibility requirements. The filter does not require active electronics, software, or a separate control connection, which allows it to operate directly within the incoming power path.
The filter provides interference suppression through internal inductors and capacitors that form a low-pass network, blocking unwanted high-frequency content while allowing the fundamental power frequency to pass. Its nominal current rating is 75 A, which is the maximum continuous line current that the choke and terminals can carry without excessive heating under the stated operating conditions. The unit is designed for a three-phase supply, with all phases treated symmetrically to prevent the filter from introducing a voltage imbalance. It can operate with a line voltage of up to 480 VAC, making it suitable for common industrial power systems. Thermal performance is referenced at an ambient temperature of 40 °C, and operation in warmer enclosures may require current derating or additional cabinet ventilation. Power conductors connect to a lug block that accepts cables with cross-sectional areas of up to 25 mm², accommodating the larger wire sizes commonly used with high-current motion systems.
The housing measures 380 mm high, providing sufficient internal space for the magnetic components and their required electrical clearances. Its width of 80 mm limits the amount of horizontal cabinet space needed when the filter is mounted near drives, contactors, or distribution hardware. A depth of 185 mm must be considered when selecting the enclosure and maintaining space for cable routing. A 6 mm protective-earth bolt on the mounting flange bonds the case to ground, helping reduce residual capacitively coupled noise and providing a secure grounding point. Adequate clearance around the housing supports airflow above and below the core while preserving suitable bending space for incoming and outgoing power conductors.
