The 3EF-16 mains EMI filter is manufactured by Kollmorgen and belongs to the Mains EMI Filters series. It is installed on the incoming three-phase supply of motion systems to block high-frequency disturbances generated by switching drives. By reducing conducted emissions, the filter protects nearby sensors, fieldbus networks, and radio equipment while allowing the connected motor controllers to draw their full operating current. The device is intended for panel mounting in original equipment and retrofit cabinets where compliance with industrial electromagnetic compatibility standards is mandatory.
The electrical path inside the filter is rated for a line current of 16 A, so drives with a combined input demand up to this level can run without thermal derating. The filter accepts mains voltages up to 400 V, matching common three-phase factory power systems. When the device feeds an isolation transformer, the calculated transformer current is 7 A, which provides a guideline for secondary fuse selection. The copper terminations accommodate conductors with a cross-sectional area of 4 mm², allowing the use of standard industrial wiring without excessive voltage drop. The steel housing has a body width of 200 mm and a depth of 65 mm. These dimensions allow the filter to be mounted on the same panel plane as contactors and circuit breakers while maintaining space for ventilation and cable routing.
Two mounting slots are positioned 115 mm apart from center to center and measure 6.5 mm in width, allowing the filter to be secured with standard M6 enclosure hardware. The enclosure has an overall height of 150 mm and an overall width of 240 mm, providing clear dimensions for control-panel placement. The assembly weighs 1.8 kg, so it places minimal load on vertical mounting rails and does not require additional structural reinforcement. Its panel-mounted arrangement also allows the mains conductors to follow a direct route through the filter before reaching the connected drives, helping separate incoming power wiring from sensitive control and feedback cables.
