Product Description:

The M4410-10020A drive is manufactured by Kollmorgen and belongs to the M4000 Digital DC Drives series. It converts three-phase industrial power into regulated direct current for armature and field circuits, supplying closed-loop speed and torque control to brushed DC motors used in automated conveyors, winders, and test rigs. Installed in a control cabinet, the product links higher-level PLC commands to motor terminals and allows precise motion without the complexity of inverter-based AC systems.

To interface with factory power, the drive accepts a three-phase line and draws an AC line full-load current of 14.6 A. The analog reference channel is processed with 0.025% speed resolution, giving the controller fine authority over motor velocity changes. Internally, the thyristor bridge can raise the armature bus to 500 VDC, and steady-state heat loss is rated at 96 W; heat is removed by natural convection, so no fan is required. The front terminal block provides 10 opto-isolated digital inputs for start, jog, and emergency commands. Each digital output can source 40 mA, and a dedicated 300 VDC field supply can momentarily reach 8 A and 414 VDC to support shunt or compound motors during load changes.

During continuous duty, the armature circuit is rated for 18.0 A, and this value can rise to 150 percent for 60 seconds to cover acceleration peaks. The drive also includes 5 digital outputs, making it possible to energize contactors, annunciators, or fault beacons directly from the control section. The incoming utility connection uses the standard 460 VAC class for compatibility with common North American industrial power systems. When paired with an appropriate motor, the drive can deliver up to 10 HP of mechanical shaft power for packaging, printing, or light process applications.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The M4410-10020A is a Kollmorgen digital DC drive built for dependable motor control on 460 VAC 3-phase input. Natural convection cooling and 0.025% analog speed resolution support clean cabinet integration and very stable speed regulation. A 150% overload capacity for 60 s adds strong operating margin, making the unit a very capable 10 HP drive.’’
