The KSM 131R is a safety control module manufactured by Kollmorgen within the KSM Safety Solution Modules series. It is intended for functional-safety tasks, supervising emergency stops, light curtains, and guard switches while forwarding validated status information to the primary motion controller. By embedding certified logic and redundant outputs, the module helps machine builders achieve Performance Level d or SIL2 safety chains in packaging lines, material-handling zones, and collaborative robotic workcells. This arrangement lets the main controller receive a processed safety state instead of evaluating each field device separately.
The unit occupies a panel space defined by a height of 100 mm, a width of 90 mm, and a depth of 115 mm, so it fits easily on a standard DIN rail. With a mass of only 300 g, it imposes little load on swing-out cabinet doors. The electronics draw up to 3.8 W under full diagnostic activity, minimizing heat buildup. Twelve safe digital inputs receive signals from interlock devices, eight OSSD inputs watch muting sensors, and two pulse outputs plus two messaging outputs return status to lamps or HMIs. Four safe relay outputs isolate contactors, while two channels of configurable safe digital I/O provide bidirectional flexibility for small actuators or additional sensors. All input channels use 24 VDC, 20 mA signals to guarantee correct edge recognition.
