The KSM 122-2A is a safety solution module produced by Kollmorgen as part of the KSM Safety Solution Modules series. It supervises servo motion directly at the drive to help achieve functional safety without relying solely on a PLC. This arrangement supports applications that require stop-category and speed-monitoring functions close to the controlled axis.

Its axis-monitoring circuit covers 2 axes, letting one housing guard paired drives with no additional hardware. The enclosure measures 100 × 115 × 90 mm, so it fits standard control cabinets while leaving space for wiring. Four front encoder ports accommodate SSI, SIN-COS, incremental TTL, or resolver signals, and a rear terminal supports two Proxi-switch or incremental HTL channels. Speed evaluation is handled separately for HTL feedback up to 10 kHz and for TTL or SIN-COS feedback up to 200 kHz, so fast rotary motion can be assessed without aliasing. With certified performance level PL e, the module satisfies EN ISO 13849 for applications where a single fault must not lead to the loss of the safety function. Two safe analog inputs and twelve safe digital inputs, eight of which are OSSD pairs, allow direct connection of light curtains, e-stops, or pressure mats, and the typical probability of dangerous failure per hour is rated at 1.2 × 10⁻⁹.

Total power draw is only 2.4 W, so dissipation remains low even in sealed panels. A proof-test interval of 20 years reduces maintenance scheduling, and the safety integrity level of SIL 3 per IEC 61508 supports high-risk zones such as presses or automated guided vehicles. The module operates from a regulated 24 VDC supply, weighs 470 g for DIN-rail mounting, and carries an IP52 enclosure that protects against limited dust ingress and dripping water.
