Product Description:
The KSM 11-2 module is a programmable safety logic unit manufactured by Kollmorgen for the KSM Safety Solution Modules series. It supervises motion-related risk functions on individual axes and exchanges safe I/O with servo drives and emergency stop circuits in industrial automation cells. By processing field sensor feedback and issuing certified stop or enable commands, the device helps bring machinery to a defined safe state whenever speed, position, or guard signals exceed configured limits. This arrangement allows safe control decisions to be made locally without depending on standard machine logic for every shutdown event or restart interlock.
The controller operates from a system supply of 24 VDC and can draw up to 3.15 A, yet its internal electronics dissipate only 2.4 W, minimizing cabinet heat. A total of 14 safety-rated digital input channels are available, permitting direct connection of light curtains, interlocks, and two-hand stations without splitters. Each input accepts 24 VDC at 20 mA, while two safe digital outputs source 24 VDC at 250 mA for drive enable lines, two relay outputs switch external contactors, a pair of semiconductor pulse outputs supports speed feedback tests, and two additional conventional digital outputs support status signaling. The housing has a protection rating of IP20, so the unit must be mounted inside a closed electrical panel.
The physical footprint is limited to 100 × 115 × 67.5 mm, leaving DIN-rail space for up to two expansion slices that add analog or fieldbus channels. One axis can be monitored, and position feedback is evaluated through 5 encoder interfaces, while two pulse outputs generate reference patterns for redundancy checks. This layout supports compact installations where the safety controller must fit beside drives, I/O, and power components in the same enclosure. Acceptable ambient temperature spans 0 to +50 °C during operation, while storage or shipment is permitted between -25 to +70 °C.
