Product Description:
The KSM 100-4 safety module is produced by Kollmorgen within the KSM Safety Solution Modules series. It functions as a configurable logic unit that supervises critical motion and machine states, sitting between field devices and higher-level controllers in automated lines. By combining safe inputs, test pulses, and diverse outputs, the unit supports emergency stop circuits, guard monitoring, and speed-limiting functions while reducing the need for external relays. This arrangement helps separate safety logic from standard control tasks and supports controlled shutdown of hazardous motion when required.
During operation, the controller is powered from a 24 VDC/2 A supply, and internal regulators keep consumption below 3.2 W maximum to limit panel heat. The molded housing carries an IP52 rating that resists dust ingress and dripping water when mounted vertically. Sensor interfaces follow the 24 VDC at 20 mA digital input standard, whereas actuators can be driven at the 24 VDC at 250 mA digital output level. Upstream power is protected by a 2 A fuse, and pluggable terminals accept conductors up to 1.5 mm². Eight OSSD channels provide fault-tolerant signal pairs, and two pulse outputs generate test patterns so short circuits and cross-faults can be detected cyclically by the internal logic.
The device provides 40 dedicated safe I/O points, including 14 certified safe inputs and 2 semiconductor safe outputs, along with one force-guided relay path for applications that require hard-contact isolation. Ten additional signal outputs are reserved for diagnostics, and the pulse stage can source up to 250 mA for line-integrity tests without external drivers. The assembly weighs 920 g, which supports direct DIN-rail installation without supplemental bracing. This layout also keeps safe switching paths and non-safe status signaling organized within the same module.
