Product Description:
The KSM 100-2-EC is a safety solution module from Kollmorgen’s KSM Safety Solution Modules series. It is installed in machine control panels to coordinate safety-related stop, guard door, and light-curtain signals while maintaining deterministic communication with the motion system. The module’s dedicated safety processor supervises field devices and forwards validated status words to the main controller, so drives and actuators receive immediate shutdown commands whenever a hazardous condition is detected.
The module exchanges data with upper-level PLCs over the EtherCAT interface, allowing real-time transfer of safe process images. Incoming switches, sensors, and push buttons are accepted on digital inputs rated at 24 VDC; 20 mA, while contactors or indicator lamps can be driven by sourcing outputs that provide 24 VDC; 250 mA. A compact housing of 100 × 115 × 135 mm simplifies DIN-rail mounting in crowded cabinets. Internal logic and field power consume only 3.2 W, so the device introduces minimal thermal load and fits comfortably on shared 24 V power buses without oversizing supply units.
Environmental limits and channel counts complete the hardware profile. An enclosure rating of IP52 protects wiring and terminals against limited dust ingress and dripping water, supporting installation in typical indoor factory zones from 0 °C to 50 °C. The unit handles 20 safe digital I/O in total, partitioned into 14 safe digital inputs for field contacts and 2 safe digital outputs that can directly interrupt power to enabling relays; a separate relay channel switches either 24 VDC at 2 A or 230 VAC at 2 A for main contactor control. Supply tolerance of –15 % to +20 % keeps the logic operational during moderate line variations, and storage is permitted between –10 °C and 70 °C for spare-part warehousing.
