Product Description:
The KSM 100-2 belongs to the KSM Safety Solution Modules series manufactured by Kollmorgen. This configurable safety controller monitors motion and machine signals to support functional safety in industrial automation cells. It is intended for machines that need monitored stops, guard-door interlocking, and coordinated shutdown of hazardous motion. By combining safe inputs, safe outputs, and configurable logic inside one DIN-rail housing, the unit provides a compact safety layer that can shut down motors or stop hazardous movement when an unsafe condition is detected.
The module’s safe input block accepts sensor signals rated at 24 VDC, 20 mA, and its safe outputs are rated at 24 VDC, 250 mA for connected actuators. It provides 14 dedicated safe input channels for devices such as emergency stops, light curtains, and door switches. For downstream control of contactors or drives, the controller includes 2 solid-state safe outputs and 1 force-guided relay contact. Two pulse outputs support encoder simulation, eight OSSD inputs allow connection of dual-channel devices, and wiring terminates on screw terminals for conductors up to 1.5 mm². This layout helps consolidate multiple safety devices in one controller instead of distributing them across separate relay modules. Power comes from a 24 VDC, 2 A source, and the onboard section provides 20 safe I/O points.
The hardware can be expanded to supervise 12 safety-rated drive axes and up to 130 safe I/O points through remote modules. Remote expansion lets the base controller remain in the cabinet while additional modules are placed closer to guarded zones. An enclosure rating of IP52 allows installation in cabinets where limited dust ingress and vertical water drips may occur. Worst-case power draw is 3.2 W max, which helps limit heat rise in crowded panels. The average probability of dangerous failure per hour is 6.0 × 10⁻⁹, supporting use in high-integrity safety applications.
