The KSM 100-1 safety logic module is produced by Kollmorgen within the KSM Safety Solution Modules series. Installed beside drives and PLCs, it monitors guard switches, light curtains, and E-stop chains and then issues safe stop commands to the motion system. By combining safe inputs, pulse outputs, and relay contacts in one housing, the unit provides a compact node that helps machine builders meet functional safety requirements on automated production lines.

All control electronics operate from a nominal 24 VDC/2 A supply, allowing direct connection to standard safety power supplies. Each digital input is rated for 24 VDC; 20 mA; Type 1 operation, so it accepts PNP signals and limits current to reduce wiring faults. The module provides 14 incl. 8 OSSD secure digital inputs, allowing connection of light curtains, door switches, and dual-channel E-stops without external splitters. The internal logic is certified to SIL 3, providing a dangerous-failure probability suitable for high-risk zones. The design also achieves PL e under ISO 13849, confirming that a single component fault does not compromise the safety function.

The enclosure carries an IP 52 rating, giving limited dust protection and shielding against dripping water when a cabinet door is opened. A fail-safe path is provided through 1 secure relay output, enabling direct interruption of motor contactors for power removal. System capacity can be expanded by attaching up to 8 extension modules, increasing I/O capacity while keeping diagnostics centralized. For field devices that need electronic switching, the solid-state outputs handle 24 VDC; 250 mA loads, so indicator lamps or pilot valves can be driven without extra interface hardware.
