Product Description:
The M.1302.8603 is an encoder feedback cable manufactured by Kollmorgen for the Kollmorgen Servo Cables series. It provides a dedicated connection between a servo motor’s encoder and a Kollmorgen drive, carrying incremental position, commutation, and temperature signals required for closed-loop motion control. The cable also carries auxiliary +5 VDC and +9 VDC power with common returns for the connected feedback components. Its combined signal and power conductors support accurate motor-position transmission in industrial automation systems where continuous cable movement is expected.
The conductor bundle has an 8 × 2 × 28 AWG + 1 × 2 × 16 AWG layout that separates low-level encoder channels from the heavier auxiliary supply pair. A total cable length of 15 m allows the drive to be installed in a centralized cabinet while the motor operates on the machine frame. The high-flex jacket uses insulation and shielding materials designed to tolerate repeated flexing without degrading signal quality. The cable supports a commutating incremental encoder, including differential A, B, and index pulses as well as commutation tracks for compatible servo systems. On the drive side, the backshell has a 45° exit angle that reduces cable stress and helps conserve space inside a crowded control panel.
A minimum bend radius of 12 × the cable’s outer diameter allows the harness to be routed through cable carriers without exceeding its strain limits. The control-end interface uses a 15-pin HD D-Sub connector paired with a 17-pin motor connector, matching the corresponding Kollmorgen drive and motor feedback connections. The available encoder channels are A, B, I, S1, S2, and S3, enabling the drive to process incremental counts and rotor-position information for commutation. At the motor end, a straight plastic overmold mates directly with the feedback housing. This connector orientation minimizes required axial clearance and supports orderly cable routing near the motor.
