The M.1302.8250 serial cable is produced by Kollmorgen within the Kollmorgen Servo Cables series. Designed for Kollmorgen servo-drive platforms, it establishes a wired data path between a maintenance computer or PLC programming station and the onboard service connector found on AKD, S200, and other compatible controllers. The connection supports drive parameter transfers, trace-data collection, and fault diagnostics while the machinery remains installed. The assembly is suitable for temporary bench use and permanent cabinet installation where routing space is limited.
The cable has a length of 4 m (13 ft), providing sufficient reach across typical control enclosures while limiting excess cable inside the cabinet. It contains four insulated cores that carry transmit, receive, and return signals between the connected devices. Each conductor uses 24 AWG stranded copper, providing the flexibility needed for routing around cabinet components while supporting logic-level communication. A combined foil and braid makes the cable shielded, helping protect transmitted data from electromagnetic interference generated by nearby motor leads and switching equipment. The electrical interface supports RS-232 communication with single-ended signaling and a common signal reference. This arrangement allows compatible terminal and drive software to exchange service data through a conventional serial port.
The signal conductors use the crossover mapping 2→3 and 3→2, allowing the cable to function as a null-modem connection without an external crossover adapter. The ground path uses 5→5 and Shell→Shell, maintaining the signal reference and continuing the cable shield between the two ends. The data conductors are arranged as a twisted pair, which helps reduce radiated noise and improves communication stability in electrically noisy servo cabinets. Both ends use a 9-pin female D-sub connector compatible with the corresponding serial interfaces on the connected equipment. Positive-locking screws help prevent either connector from loosening when exposed to machine vibration. Gold-flash contacts support repeated mating during routine preventive maintenance and diagnostic access.
