The M.1015.7930 cable is produced by Kollmorgen within the Kollmorgen Servo Cables series. It is an encoder feedback lead designed to relay position data from a servomotor’s encoder to a compatible drive module in automated machinery. By maintaining signal integrity between the motor and controller, the assembly supports closed-loop regulation of speed, torque, and position. This function makes the cable suitable for motion systems in packaging lines, pick-and-place robots, CNC axes, and other equipment that depends on accurate feedback. Its dedicated feedback design also keeps low-level encoder signals separate from motor power and brake circuits.
The assembly has a length of 3 m (10 ft), providing adequate reach for panel-to-motor routing inside compact automation cells. It is designed for encoder feedback, distinguishing it from power and brake harnesses routed through the same machine. At the drive end, a 20-pin Mini-D ribbon connector mates with the appropriate Kollmorgen controller header. The cable uses 360° shielding at both ends, allowing the braid and foil to connect around the entire circumference of each connector shell. This shielding arrangement helps protect differential encoder signals from electrical interference generated by nearby motors, contactors, and switching equipment. The assembly also has molded and potted connectors, which protect the internal terminations from vibration and mechanical strain. Individually insulated conductors are arranged in twisted pairs to reduce crosstalk between encoder channels and preserve feedback quality over the cable run.
On the machine side, the cable connects to an FSM or HSM motor, while the opposite end presents the feedback signals through the drive’s J2 interface. The assembly is intended for standard-size drives only, ensuring that its connector arrangement and pinout match the supported drive platform. Its connector-to-connector construction provides continuous conductors between both plugs without requiring an intermediate junction box. This direct arrangement reduces the number of connection points that could introduce signal loss or shielding gaps. The cable is not intended for field disassembly or retermination because opening either molded connector could damage the internal contacts, strain relief, or shielding path. Proper routing should avoid excessive tension, sharp bends, and contact with moving machine components so the conductors and connector interfaces remain secure during operation.
