Product Description:
The ENDAT-AKM-003M-MCS-DCA-28-NA is a combined feedback and low-voltage supply cable engineered by Kollmorgen for the Kollmorgen Servo Cables series. The assembly connects an AKM servo motor to a compatible drive, carrying encoder signals and logic power through one cable so position-control wiring remains compact and reliable. Integrating the motor and drive terminations into a single molded harness reduces the number of separate connections required in an industrial automation system. The combined arrangement also helps prevent wiring errors during installation and provides an organized signal path between the motor encoder and drive.
The cable is intended for static routing after it is secured inside a cabinet or machine frame, rather than for applications involving repeated flexing. Its twisted-pair construction limits crosstalk between data and supply conductors across the installed length of 3 meters. Inside the sheath, the cable contains eight pairs of 28 AWG conductors and one pair of 16 AWG conductors, separating high-speed differential signals from the heavier power leads. At the drive end, signals terminate through a 15-pin HD D-Sub male connector with a 45-degree exit angle. This angled connection provides strain relief and clearance where several cables converge on the same backplane. The motor end uses a straight molded plug, allowing the cable to follow a predictable route along the machine axis without requiring additional space for an angled motor connection.
The harness supports the BiSS or EnDat 2.1 serial protocols used by the AKM sine encoder. Differential pairs carry position data and reference signals through the COS/COS-, SIN/SIN-, DATA±, and CLOCK± channels, helping preserve signal integrity between the encoder and drive. An auxiliary pair supplies +5 VDC and COM to power the encoder electronics independently of the differential data channels. The sine-encoder feedback format allows the drive to receive the analog position references and serial data needed for closed-loop motor control. Shielding remains continuous through the straight motor connector and its mating interface, helping protect low-level feedback signals from nearby electrical noise. The outer jacket maintains the cable’s physical arrangement and electrical impedance after installation, while the molded terminations protect conductor transitions at both connection points.
