Kollmorgen manufactures the CF-SS-CHGE-03, a sheathed commutating encoder feedback cable in the Kollmorgen Servo Cables series. The assembly carries incremental channels, Hall tracks, and a temperature lead between a servo motor and its drive, allowing precise position feedback and thermal monitoring in industrial automation systems. By enclosing the conductors within a durable jacket, the cable resists abrasion and oil splash while supporting compact routing inside machinery. The separate temperature lead lets one cable handle both feedback and thermal supervision. It is supplied pre-terminated to reduce wiring time during cabinet assembly.
The motor side uses a 17-pin M23 circular connector, supplying differential encoder pairs, Hall power, and the integrated thermal sensor. At the drive end, a 15-pin Sub-D plug mates with the S300 controller family, and the wiring is assigned to the feedback pins on the terminal identified as S300 X1. Eight twisted wire pairs, each 0.25 mm², form the signal core; this compact conductor layout is 8x(2x0.25 mm²) and balances flexibility with low impedance. The cable preserves rising-edge fidelity up to 350 kHz, so high-resolution AquadB encoders can be sampled without distortion during rapid acceleration.
The M23 connector carries an ingress protection rating of IP65, preventing dust and low-pressure water jets from reaching the contacts when the coupling nut is tightened. Signal pairs are arranged as twisted pairs, and the cable is shielded with a full copper braid to minimize electromagnetic crosstalk in servo cabinets packed with high-current motor leads. Differential encoder pulses are transmitted in the AquadB 5 V with Hall format, which provides quadrature position, an index channel, and three Hall channels to the drive. A dedicated motor thermal sensor wire allows the controller to derate or shut down the axis before winding temperature exceeds safe limits.
