The DSM175 is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the DSA SERCOS Drives series. It interfaces between a motion controller and a PM servo motor, delivering regulated current and velocity commands for coordinated multi-axis machinery. By supporting SERCOS fiber-optic communication and onboard RS-232 or 4-wire RS-485 service ports, the unit fits automated cells that require deterministic bus timing and direct parameter access. This communication mix allows the drive to operate in synchronized motion systems while still providing a local path for setup and diagnostics.
The drive draws a nominal 28 A of continuous input current and can supply motors with 3.0 kW of continuous output when powered from a single-phase line or 7.5 kW from a three-phase source. Short-term overloads are handled by a peak output of 50 A on single-phase feeds and 75 A on three-phase feeds, allowing rapid acceleration without saturation. Control performance is supported by a velocity loop bandwidth of 400 Hz, while the position interfaces accept master encoder or step/direction signals up to 1 MHz, and the auxiliary encoder input supports the same maximum rate. For applications with larger kinetic energy, an external resistor can be connected to dissipate 4.0 kW continuously and up to 10.0 kW at peak. This arrangement helps the drive manage regenerated energy during repeated braking events without relying only on the internal circuit.
