The DSM1150 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen within the DSA SERCOS Drives series. Designed for panel-mounted motion systems, it interfaces with SERCOS fiber-optic networks to modulate power for synchronous or induction motors in automated machinery. The unit converts three-phase mains power into regulated DC bus energy and pulse-width-modulated output, enabling precise velocity and torque control for conveyors, packaging axes, and process lines.
To sustain normal duty cycles, the drive delivers a continuous output current of 65 A, providing continuous mechanical power of 15.0 kW at the motor terminals. The input section draws 46 A RMS from a three-phase AC supply and rectifies it onto a 7,520 µF DC bus that can absorb 266 J during regenerative events. An internal 180 W shunt resistor dissipates this energy without an external load when the average braking power remains moderate. Control performance is supported by a current-loop bandwidth of 1.2 kHz and a PWM carrier frequency of 5 kHz. Field wiring for limit switches or sensors is powered by a dedicated 24 VDC, 250 mA source, eliminating the need for an auxiliary supply.
For transient moves, the power stage supports a peak output current of 150 A and can provide up to 36 kW to the motor for short bursts. When regenerative peaks are extreme, an external brake assembly can dissipate 19.0 kW, supplementing the internal braking element. Electrical losses are limited to 500 W at the rated current, reducing the heat load within the enclosure. The speed loop refreshes at 5 kHz, keeping the commanded velocity aligned with actual motion even during rapid direction changes. The unit weighs 14.06 kg, permitting installation on standard DIN rails or mounting plates without heavy reinforcement.
