The DSM030P is a digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the DSA SERCOS Drives series. It interfaces with SERCOS motion controllers to regulate brushless servomotors used in material handling, packaging, and other coordinated-axis tasks. By modulating its internal power stage and monitoring encoder feedback, the unit converts three-phase mains power into a precise closed-loop output that maintains commanded velocity, position, or torque in industrial automation systems.

The drive draws up to 18 A RMS from a 240 VAC source, and this rating sets wiring size and protective device selection at the cabinet level. A bulk capacitor bank of 1880 µF smooths the DC bus, while its energy sink can absorb 51 J of regenerated power to help prevent overvoltage during fast deceleration. The internal speed loop operates at a bandwidth of 300 Hz, allowing rapid correction of load disturbances. When operated at rated line voltage, the inverter can deliver a continuous mechanical output of 2.5 kW, matching mid-frame motors used on conveyors or gantry axes. A 10-bit analog input is provided for velocity or torque commands, and three indexing modes, incremental, registration, and absolute, enable standalone positioning sequences without a master controller.

During accelerations, the output stage supplies up to 30 A, producing a short-term shaft power of 5.5 kW for peak load demands, while the thermal design supports a steady motor phase current of 10 A. The auxiliary encoder port handles count rates up to 4 MHz, accommodating high-resolution feedback devices used for micron-level positioning. Power dissipation at full load is 50 W and is removed through the aluminum baseplate. A ready relay rated at 100 mA and a brake relay rated at 1 A provide system-status and brake-release signals. The 5 VDC signal supply powers external sensors, and the total mass is 2.0 kg, permitting direct mounting on moving axes where low inertia is required.
