Product Description:

The DSM030 is a digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen within the DSA SERCOS Drives series. Designed for axis control in packaging machines, gantries, and similar automation stations, the unit converts line power into regulated DC bus energy and modulated phase currents for brushless servomotors. Its SERCOS interface connects the drive to deterministic motion networks, allowing precise velocity, torque, and position control. By integrating feedback processing, drive logic, and power electronics in a compact housing, the DSM030 simplifies cabinet layouts and reduces wiring within industrial control systems.

The incoming mains supply is single-phase, and the drive draws up to 18 A RMS. This energy is routed to a DC link with a capacitance of 1880 µF, while a bus energy absorption limit of 51 J smooths transients caused by regeneration. Continuous motor regulation is supported by a rated output current of 10 A, and internal power loss remains at 50 W under full load. For brief periods of high demand, the power stage can deliver peak current for 0.5 s. The speed loop has a -3 dB bandwidth of 300 Hz, helping the motor follow rapid command changes with minimal error. Motion feedback enters through an encoder port that accepts signals at up to 1 MHz and provides 5 VDC excitation. An analog monitor channel with 8-bit resolution is available for process diagnostics. The continuous output power at a 240 VAC supply is rated at 2.5 kW.

For brief accelerations, the DSM030 supplies a peak output current of 30 A and can deliver up to 5.5 kW of output power when operated from a 240 VAC supply. An internal brake relay rated at 1 A switches the dynamic-braking resistor circuit to help keep the DC bus within safe limits during deceleration. The drive weighs 2.0 kg, allowing it to be installed in dense multi-axis racks without requiring heavy support structures. Its compact housing also leaves more cabinet space available for adjacent drives, power distribution components, and control equipment.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The DSM030 is a Kollmorgen SERCOS drive with single-phase input and 2.5 kW continuous power at 240 Vac. Peak output current of 30 Amps and 300 Hz speed bandwidth give the DSM030 strong dynamic response for motion control applications. A very capable drive option for compact systems, especially where 10 Amps of continuous output current is a key requirement.’’
