The DSM015 is a single-axis servo drive from Kollmorgen within the DSA SERCOS Drives series. It interfaces with motion controllers over the SERCOS network to regulate current and velocity in brushless or stepper motors used in automated packaging lines, assembly cells, and material handling machines. By combining motor power electronics, feedback processing, and fieldbus communication, the drive delivers closed-loop performance suitable for mid-power axes that require accurate speed and position control.
Command signals can arrive as a ±10 V analog velocity reference, and the drive converts that voltage into proportional torque commands while still allowing digital SERCOS control. Under continuous operation, the power section draws 9 A from the DC bus and can deliver 5 A to the motor phases, supporting steady production loads. During acceleration or disturbance rejection, it supplies up to 15 A for short intervals. The velocity loop closes at 300 Hz, so the controller can correct speed errors within milliseconds. An incremental encoder on the motor feeds position data back to the DSM015, and three selectable digital inputs plus two selectable digital outputs give the machine controller direct access to enable, fault reset, or user-defined interlocks. An auxiliary serial port accepts RS-232 or four-wire RS-485 for setup.
Energy returned from decelerating axes is absorbed internally; the bus capacitors and shunt dissipate 51 J before external braking resistors are required, and the shunt transistor handles peaks up to 2.2 kW. When the drive is operated in step-and-direction mode, its command interface accepts pulses up to 1 MHz, allowing micro-stepping controllers to use the full resolution of the eight preset counts stored on board. The compact aluminum housing weighs 2.03 kg, so it mounts easily inside crowded electrical panels while keeping thermal mass low for fan-based cooling.
