The DSA 175-230-S is a servo drive module produced by Kollmorgen and supplied as part of the DSA SERCOS Drives series. Designed for installation between a three-phase line supply and a brushless motor, it regulates current and voltage to execute precise speed and torque commands within distributed motion networks that use the SERCOS interface. By handling commutation and energy management internally, the drive simplifies control cabinet wiring in automated machinery.

The drive delivers a continuous output of 35 A (0-peak), indicating the steady sinusoidal phase current it can supply without overheating. For short bursts such as rapid acceleration, it can reach 75 A (0-peak), giving additional torque headroom before thermal limits intervene. At 230 V, the power section supports a sustained output of 7.5 kW, matching mid-range servo motors used in packaging or material-handling axes. The current regulator runs every 125 microseconds, so loop corrections are applied eight thousand times per second for fine dynamic response. The line input carries 30 Arms, a value used to size the upstream protection and supply conductors. The I/O board also provides eight digital inputs for limit switches or interlocks.

During regenerative events, the internal resistor can dissipate 151 J per cycle, with additional braking energy routed through an optional external resistor of 16.5 ohms to protect the DC bus. That external network can absorb up to 4 kW continuously, while the built-in device handles peaks of 10 kW and maintains an average of 50 W without external hardware. Even at maximum demand, the converter’s losses are limited to 300 W, which simplifies enclosure cooling calculations.
