The DSA 046-460-S is a servo amplifier in Kollmorgen’s DSA SERCOS Drives series. It acts as the interface between a SERCOS motion controller and three-phase servo motors, modulating power from a 460 VAC supply to match changing axis demands. This arrangement lets the controller issue coordinated motion commands while the amplifier handles the rapid current changes needed for servo response. Because the drive communicates over fiber-optic SERCOS, it fits distributed motion networks that require deterministic update cycles for precise control in packaging lines, material-handling cells, and other automated equipment.

The drive provides a continuous motor current of 23 A, and it can supply up to 46 A during short acceleration periods. That current capacity supports stable torque at rated load and brief overload during indexing or rapid speed changes. At 460 VAC, the unit delivers 10 kW of output power while drawing 14 A RMS from the mains. Regenerative energy is routed to the internal shunt, which handles 200 W continuously and peaks at 16 kW to protect the DC bus. If braking energy rises beyond that level, an external 40 Ω resistor can be connected to increase absorption capacity during 460 V operation.

Control bandwidth uses nested update rates: the current loop refreshes every 125 µsec, velocity corrections occur every 250 µsec, and the position loop closes every 1 ms. This structure separates fast current regulation from slower velocity and position correction, which helps maintain accurate motion during command changes. The unit also provides eight digital inputs, four digital outputs, and a relay rated at 1 A, all within a 100 µsec I/O window that helps keep sensor-to-torque latency low. The drive has a mass of 10.44 kg, allowing cabinet or DIN-rail mounting without special reinforcement.
