The DSA 022-460-S three-phase servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen within the DSA SERCOS Drives series. It acts as the power and control interface between a machine controller and a brushless servo motor, regulating current and velocity while exchanging deterministic data on a SERCOS optical ring. The drive supports synchronized, distributed motion so that packaging machines, material-handling gantries, and other automated equipment can execute coordinated moves without separate axis controllers. Because communication and power conversion are combined in one unit, the axis can respond directly to motion commands while remaining integrated with the rest of the control system.
It operates from a three-phase supply of 230-480 Vrms, allowing connection to either 230 V or 460 V mains. The allowed line window of 47–63 Hz covers both 50 Hz and 60 Hz utility systems without additional frequency conversion. Under continuous load, the drive delivers 11 A of sinusoidal output current, which corresponds to a rated shaft power of 5.0 kW at 460 VAC. For rapid accelerations, it can source up to 22 A of peak current for a limited duration before thermal foldback occurs. A built-in shunt resistor dissipates regenerated energy through the braking path, and the heat produced by the electronics remains limited so cabinet cooling can be sized appropriately. Eight opto-isolated digital inputs and four opto-isolated digital outputs operate from 12-24 V logic. The I/O latches within 100 µsec, which supports tight synchronization with motion phases that arrive on each SERCOS cycle. During aggressive decelerations, the internal absorber handles up to 219 J. For higher braking demands, an external brake resistor as low as 120 Ohms can be wired to the dedicated terminals. A single optical ring can support 32 axes, which allows this drive to operate with many peer devices on one master interface. The total mass of 8.55 kg supports panel mounting without auxiliary supports, and the integrated I/O helps the control system react quickly to sensors, switches, and interlocks.
