The DS130 is an AC servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the DSA SERCOS Drives series. It forms the power and control link between a SERCOS motion bus and a brushless motor. The drive converts single-phase mains energy into regulated current that executes torque, speed, and position commands in automated machinery.

The drive can deliver a continuous phase current of 15 A (0-peak), allowing axis loads to remain energized without overheating, while its continuous power rating reaches 3 kW when operated from a 230 V supply. Current loops refresh every 125 µs, so commanded torque changes appear at the motor with minimal latency. The drive includes 8 opto-isolated digital inputs that accept limit, home, or fault signals directly at the amplifier. During regenerative deceleration, the internal resistor absorbs 96 J of energy, and an external braking element of 30 Ohms may be wired in parallel to extend the dissipation capacity. Velocity loops close at 250 µs, position loops at 1 ms, and the command interface supports TTL step-and-direction streams up to 2.5 MHz. Main line current under nominal load is 28 Arms, and a 50 A inrush transient is specified for power-up.

For short duty peaks, the amplifier supplies 30 A (0-peak), giving extra torque during indexing or rapid acceleration. The internal shunt can handle up to 4.5 kW instantaneously and dissipates 50 W on a continuous basis, helping the drive remain within thermal limits when the external resistor is not used. Energy moves through the control loops every 125 µs, yet communication packets update servo position only once per millisecond, balancing network traffic with axis accuracy. The assembly weighs 6.2 kg, so cabinet layouts must account for this mass when mounting multiple units side by side.
