Product Description:

The digifas 7108-CAN is a servo amplifier manufactured by Kollmorgen within the DIGIFAS 7000 Servo Amplifiers series. It regulates torque and velocity for synchronous motors while exchanging commands and status information over a CAN-based fieldbus, allowing coordinated multi-axis motion in industrial automation cells. By combining closed-loop current control with a dedicated power stage, the unit converts DC-link energy into three-phase motor currents so connected axes can follow programmed motion profiles with accurate response during changing load conditions.

The drive communicates through a CAN bus that terminates on a Sub-D 9-pin socket, and the logic expects a setpoint source with 20 kΩ input resistance and a resolution of 14-bit for fine command granularity. Its current loop responds at 1 kHz, while the power transistors are modulated by an 8.33 kHz output-stage clock to support mid-range servo dynamics. Inside the DC link, the intermediate circuit is held at 560 VDC, and energy peaks are dissipated first by a 200 W internal ballast and then, if required, through an external resistor not smaller than 75 Ω. The design accepts motors with inductances down to 5 mH, and its rated connected load of 4.5 kVA is the maximum continuous apparent power drawn from the supply.

The output stage delivers a continuous phase current of 8 Arms and can rise to 16 Arms for short acceleration intervals before thermal limits intervene. Power loss at rated current is 100 W, which is used when cabinet cooling is calculated. If the bus voltage exceeds the overvoltage threshold of 750 V, the amplifier triggers a shutdown to protect the semiconductors. For applications with high regenerative energy, up to 2000 W can be routed to an external ballast so braking cycles stay within safe link-voltage limits.
