Kollmorgen manufactures the D083A-13-1215 in its DDR Direct Drive Motors series. This frameless torque motor is intended to be face mounted directly to a load, eliminating gearboxes or belts. By coupling electromagnetic torque straight to the application shaft, the unit serves positioning tables, indexers, and rotary process heads that need repeatable low-speed motion in industrial automation.

Internally, a single-bearing construction maintains axial alignment while keeping the envelope compact. The motor supplies a continuous torque of 56.0 N-m, allowing it to hold load torque indefinitely within the thermal limits of the 240 VAC winding class. For rapid indexing, it can reach a peak output of 160 N-m without magnetic saturation, and the rotor inertia of 0.0301 kg-m² indicates the current demand needed to accelerate to the maximum operating speed of 250 rpm. A long-stack rotor maximizes flux linkage, and the face-mount flange transfers reaction forces directly to the machine frame. The 90° rotatable connector allows power and feedback cabling to be routed away from moving hardware, reducing strain on the leads.

The housing is built for direct integration into enclosed industrial equipment. The stator housing spans an outer diameter of 8.60 in and carries an IP65 seal, giving full dust exclusion and protection against low-pressure water jets. When mounted, the assembly weighs 28.8 kg, so the supporting structure must accept both that mass and the bearing's dynamic axial load rating of 3,360 kg. High-resolution position feedback is furnished by the resolver system; it offers ±140 arc-sec absolute accuracy, ±2.4 arc-sec repeatability, and a digital resolution of 134,217,728 counts/rev, enabling fine commutation and tight velocity loops even at the motor's low top speed.
