Kollmorgen produces the AKT-SM-L15-000 as part of the AKT IO Terminals series. The terminal is dedicated to stepper motor control in modular automation racks, providing both power and pulse-train generation for one two-phase motor. By sitting next to digital and analog slices, it lets the system builder add axis movement without a discrete panel-mounted drive.

During continuous operation, the terminal supplies 2 × 1 A to the motor windings, with a momentary ceiling of 2 × 1.5 A for acceleration events. The power stage is fed from a logic supply of 24 VDC, and input transitions are debounced by an 0.2 ms filter to protect the processor from contact chatter. Two opto-isolated control lines provide 2 digital inputs for limit switches or home sensors. The pulse generator can issue step commands at up to 125,000 steps/s, enabling high feed rates when it is paired with small-pitch lead screws. Resolution is boosted by the built-in microstep sequencer that supports up to 64-step drive, giving smoother motion than coarse full-step operation.
