Product Description:
The AKT-PRB-000-000 is a PROFIBUS bus coupler produced by Kollmorgen for the AKT IO Terminals series. Within an automation rack, it functions as the interface between the Advanced Kollmorgen Terminal I/O slices and a higher-level controller. By translating local I/O data into the PROFIBUS protocol, it allows field signals to be consolidated and forwarded across the plant network, reducing cabinet wiring and simplifying diagnostics. This arrangement also lets distributed terminal slices exchange process data through one networked interface.
The coupler communicates on the fieldbus at a rate of 12 Mbaud and supports up to 64 directly attached bus terminals. These terminals can deliver or accept a total of 512 inputs/outputs, while cyclic data exchange is limited to 128 in / 128 out bytes per PROFIBUS frame. A shielded copper cable with 2 × 0.25 mm² conductors is used as the transfer medium to maintain signal integrity at high speed. When repeaters are inserted, as many as 100 I/O stations can be chained on a single segment. For electrical safety, internal circuits are isolated from the fieldbus by up to 500 Vrms, protecting both the controller and the connected sensors or actuators from potential differences.
Local supply is obtained from a control voltage of 24 V DC, which is routed through power contacts rated for 10 A. The same voltage feeds the electronics, and the module draws up to 500 mA during normal operation; at startup, the current can surge to 2.5 x continuous current. An internal fuse rated for 10 A limits fault energy. The housing is 100.0 mm tall and 51.0 mm wide, permitting dense mounting on DIN rail while still conforming to the device’s IP 20 protection class. These values describe the electrical load, startup behavior, and mounting space required for the module.
