The AKT-AN-420-000 is an analog input terminal produced by Kollmorgen as part of the AKT IO Terminals series. Designed for distributed control systems, the unit conditions process current signals and forwards them onto the automation bus so a controller can monitor field instruments such as pressure or flow transmitters. Placing the conversion electronics close to the sensors reduces long analog wiring runs, helps keep panel layouts orderly, and makes I/O expansion easier inside machine cabinets. That arrangement lets the terminal digitize signals near the measurement point instead of carrying low-level analog values across the entire machine.

It provides 4 channels of acquisition, and each channel accepts a current range of 0–20 mA for standard loop devices. The conversion circuit operates at 12-bit resolution, giving the controller fine measurement steps across the selected range. To protect the inputs, the common-mode voltage must remain below 30 V maximum. Process data is transferred as a 4 × 16-bit image, while module diagnostics can be passed through a separate 4 × 8-bit control and status area. The terminal exchanges data with the controller through the standard bus power supply, and the 2-wire input design keeps loop connections simple while the internal resistance stays below 85 Ω. The housing is rated IP20, so the unit is intended for cabinet mounting.

Total measuring deviation is limited to ±0.3% FS, which supports consistent monitoring of transmitter signals. The circuitry blocks currents above 20.8 mA to help prevent overload at the input stage. The terminal mounts on a 35 mm EN 50022 rail, allowing it to line up neatly with neighboring modules in the same station. A watchdog timer stops data transfer if no bus update is detected within 100 ms, which helps the control system recognize a communication fault quickly. This behavior is useful where the controller must react to missing field data without waiting for a longer timeout elsewhere in the system.
