Product Description:

The 56WK-P240/80-B analog servo amplifier is produced by Kollmorgen within the 60WKS Analog Servo Amplifiers series. The device conditions three-phase mains power and supplies controlled armature current to brushless or brushed servo motors used in positioning tables, packaging axes, and other automated machinery. By balancing the DC link with an integrated ballast network, the unit protects the connected drive system from regenerative energy and maintains stable voltage during rapid motor deceleration.

During normal operation, the servo amplifier operates at a rated DC-link potential of 240 V DC, allowing the power stage to deliver up to 22 kVA of apparent power to the motor terminals. With forced-air cooling, the continuous phase current reaches 90 A, while natural convection limits the continuous phase current to 30 A. For short acceleration bursts, the peak output with forced-air cooling rises to 180 A, providing high dynamic torque without saturating the transistors. Under natural cooling, the short-term peak is limited to 60 A, which is suitable for applications with moderate inertia. The internal control board monitors bus energy and initiates a shutdown if the supply falls below the undervoltage trip point of 90 V. Thermal management limits steady-state power loss to 200 W, allowing cabinet ventilation to be sized accordingly.

The braking network is protected by a 10 AT cartridge fuse and starts conducting when the bus reaches the ballast threshold of 285 V. Once active, it channels excess energy through a resistor with a minimum resistance of 3.3 Ω, converting the energy into heat. The network tolerates instantaneous pulses of up to 27 kW for one second, provided the supply does not exceed the rated ballast limit of 300 V. A separate 3 × 63 AT fuse protects the three-phase bridge rectifier. The aluminum housing measures 220 × 233.4 × 60 mm and weighs 1.2 kg, allowing dense stacking in control enclosures.
