The 28.Z1.C05-1000 is a sine-wave electromagnetic compatibility filter manufactured by KEB as part of the Z1 Sine Wave EMC Filters series. It is installed on the output of a variable-frequency drive so the downstream motor receives a cleaner voltage waveform, which helps reduce dv/dt stress at the winding terminals. By smoothing the inverter output, the filter helps limit voltage peaks that can shorten motor insulation life, especially where longer motor cables are used. It also reduces high-frequency noise that could interfere with nearby control equipment.
This model carries a continuous load of 290 A at a rated line voltage of 480 V, allowing it to support drive systems up to 250 hp. A design frequency of 60 Hz aligns the filter with standard North American power systems, and an overload margin of 150% for 60 s every 10 min permits short-term current surges during motor acceleration. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, and upstream protection devices must be set not to exceed 430 A. Field wiring uses 350 MCM conductors connected to bus bars, while both the ground and ring terminals use M12 studs to support common bonding practices. That combination of conductor size and connection hardware suits the high-current path through the assembly.
Thermal supervision is handled by three sensors that activate a fan circuit when the heat-sink temperature reaches 100 °C and close an overheat contact rated for 230 VAC at 2 A if additional cooling is needed. The filter has a short-circuit current rating of 10 kA, and the power terminals are tightened to 31 Nm to maintain low-resistance connections. Proper terminal torque helps limit unwanted heating at the connection points during continuous current flow. Internal power dissipation is 2238 W, so cabinet airflow must remove that heat during sustained operation.
