The 20.Z1.C05-1000 is a sine-wave electromagnetic compatibility filter produced by KEB for the Z1 Sine Wave EMC Filters series. Positioned between a variable-frequency drive and its motor, the unit converts the drive’s high-frequency, pulse-width-modulated output into a near-sinusoidal waveform. This attenuation reduces voltage rise times and common-mode noise, helping protect motor insulation and allowing equipment to meet conducted-emission limits in automated machinery lines.
The filter is sized for a load current of 55 A at a nominal line voltage of 480 V and supports networks with current total harmonic distortion of ≤ 8%. During periodic overloads, it can carry 150% for 60 seconds every 10 minutes, supporting drives that require elevated torque during acceleration. Acceptable ambient temperatures range from -10 to 45 °C, so the assembly can operate in most control rooms without additional cooling. An M8 threaded ground stud simplifies bonding to the cabinet frame, while 16 mm² conductors clamp into the terminals with a tightening torque of 4 Nm. Upstream protection may use fuses or circuit breakers rated up to 80 A, and the filter operates at the standard utility frequency of 60 Hz.
The filter supports downstream motors rated up to 50 hp, while connected drives can use a 21 A starter setting when full output is not immediately required. Fault clearance is supported by a 10 kA short-circuit withstand rating, and the IP20 housing provides finger-safe protection against accidental contact with internal components. The electrical design tolerates line-voltage excursions from 432 to 528 V without derating. Internal power dissipation reaches 533 W under rated load, so the panel ventilation system must remove the generated heat. Proper airflow around the enclosure also helps prevent excessive temperature buildup during continuous operation.
