The C2.F5.SDD-33E0 axis inverter is produced by KEB within the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It is a servo drive that converts three-phase power into controlled output currents so automation controllers can position or regulate synchronous and induction motors. The unit relies on a dedicated heat sink assembly to remove switching losses. It is intended for installation inside a control cabinet where forced airflow passes across the heat sink fins.
Analog command processing is handled by a pulse-width-modulated input that switches at 3.4 kHz; this carrier frequency is applied to the external reference signal before it reaches the internal current regulators. The drive samples the reference with 12-bit resolution, providing 4,096 discrete steps between zero and full scale. Each conversion cycle is completed in 1 ms, allowing motion commands to be updated every millisecond. A fixed reference channel supplies 10 VDC at up to 4 mA for a potentiometer or PLC output, while a 9-pin D-Sub connector reproduces incremental encoder signals for downstream drives. Resolver feedback from the motor is received through a 15-pin D-Sub socket. The input section accepts three-phase 400 VAC/DC power, and the internal IGBTs commutate the motor phases at 16 kHz to minimize torque ripple at low speeds.
During operation, the drive can withstand momentary load surges of up to 150% of its rated current without tripping. For events lasting a few seconds, it tolerates a short-term demand of 125% of its rated current. An integrated temperature sensor derates the output when the heat sink surface reaches 90 °C, protecting the power electronics against excessive thermal loading. The housing has an IP20 ingress protection rating, so the installation area must remain free of conductive dust and liquid spray. The design supports installation at elevations of up to 2,000 m without additional cooling. Because an encoder feedback card is not installed, position data must be obtained through the external resolver channel or the simulated encoder port.
