The B2.F5.S1D-34EC axis drive is manufactured by KEB as part of the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Designed for closed-loop, field-oriented control, the unit operates as the power interface between an automation controller and a three-phase motor. It supplies vector-regulated voltage and current to achieve precise torque and speed regulation in multi-axis production lines.
The signal processing section supports an analog input with a 12-bit resolution, allowing 4,096 discrete levels for command voltages. These inputs are sampled every 1 ms, so setpoints can be refreshed at 1 kHz. After processing, the analog output passes through a 178 Hz filter that attenuates high-frequency noise before conversion into a carrier that is pulse-width modulated at 3.4 kHz. The drive reference circuitry can supply 4 mA to external devices and provides a fixed 10 VDC reference for potentiometers. Digital inputs have an impedance of 2.1 kΩ and use the same scan period, enabling synchronized edge detection. A 9-pin Sub-D connector supplies simulated encoder signals, while a resolver returns the actual motor position for the closed-loop control algorithm. An internal braking transistor dissipates dynamic energy during rapid deceleration.
The air-cooled design relies on forced convection over the heat sink and uses a type D housing, keeping its overall depth compatible with standard control cabinet rails. The enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP20, protecting against contact with large solid objects while requiring installation behind a panel. The control logic can actuate field devices through a relay rated for 1 A, reducing the need for external interposing relays in low-power circuits. Continuous operation is supported at altitudes up to 2000 m, above which the drive may require derating. Its compact housing and forced-air cooling support installation in conveyors, hoists, indexing modules, and other automated systems that require precise motor control.
