The 31.F5.A1W-A0-D axis drive is produced by KEB as part of the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. The module converts fixed-frequency three-phase mains power into controlled voltage and frequency for coordinated multi-axis motion, allowing precise speed and torque regulation in presses, conveyors, and high-power machining centers. Designed for cabinet installation, it uses a standard board architecture that supports incremental feedback handling and step-command generation, allowing the drive to maintain position accuracy under heavy mechanical loads.
The drive provides a continuous output of 355 kW at a rated current of 630 A. The input section accepts a six-phase 400 V AC supply, and an external mains choke must be installed to limit line harmonics at this voltage. The power semiconductors switch at a nominal carrier frequency of 2 kHz but can operate at up to 4 kHz when finer current resolution is required. Protective logic sets the overcurrent trip threshold at 150% of the rated current, while the absolute peak current may reach 787 A before shutdown. Regenerated energy is routed to the GTR7 braking chopper, which keeps the DC-link voltage within its permissible range during rapid deceleration.
Thermal management relies on passive convection cooling, removing the need for cooling fans when the drive operates in a suitable control room. The housing follows form factor code W and has an IP20 enclosure rating, so the unit requires installation inside a sealed cabinet. Conducted emissions comply with C2 limits, making the drive suitable for typical industrial supply networks fed from dedicated transformers. A standard control board provides logic functions, and an auxiliary signal port produces TTL-level status pulses for upstream controllers. The same board includes an incremental TTL encoder interface on a D-sub connector for motor feedback. This interface receives position and speed signals from a compatible encoder, allowing the control board to regulate axis movement through its closed-loop functions.
