The 2A.F5.230-0038 axis drive module is produced by KEB within the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It converts mains power into a regulated three-phase output that controls induction or synchronous motors used in packaging lines, gantries, and material-handling stations. Inside an automation cell, the drive interprets reference commands, closes the motor feedback loop, and dissipates regenerative energy during braking. A built-in braking transistor and EMI filter handle those functions internally, which reduces the need for external components and simplifies cabinet wiring while helping keep emissions under control.

The unit has 17 control terminals, which provide structured points for I/O and safety wiring, while an external control-voltage supply keeps the electronics active during a mains shutdown for parameter retention. The analog section provides one input converted at 11-bit resolution for speed or torque references, and one output with the same precision for process feedback. The drive also has 5 digital inputs that use PNP logic levels for direct connection to sourcing sensors. In addition, 2 digital outputs share 50 mA total and can be assigned to status flags or brake control. Commands are processed alongside encoder feedback, and two channels capture incremental signals so the controller can track motion in step with the power stage.

The transistor outputs use the open-collector method, which allows the pull-up voltage to be selected without overloading the drive’s low-power stages. For interlocking circuitry, the unit adds a single relay output with contacts rated at 30 VDC / 1 A, allowing direct actuation of small contactors or holding brakes. Motion data can also be forwarded to downstream devices through encoder emulation that delivers a TTL output signal pair. This arrangement supports signal distribution to connected control hardware when replicated feedback is needed elsewhere in the machine.
